Formnext + PM South China debuts successfully

20 Sep 2021

The debut edition of Formnext + PM South China concluded successfully on 11 September, as the fair marks its place within the Chinese manufacturing industry. Held at the Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center from 9 – 11 September, the fair’s inaugural edition attracted 199 exhibitors and 9,330 visitors to participate.

After three days of bustling activity across 15,000 square metres of fair ground, the very first Formnext + PM South China ended with much enthusiasm, cementing its place as one of the leading fairs in the region for additive manufacturing, powder metallurgy, design, software and processing technologies. Leveraging the success of Formnext in Frankfurt and PM China in Shanghai, the leading industry platform for additive manufacturing, powder metallurgy and advanced ceramic, this new fair has shown through the number of participants and their feedback that bringing the brand to China and Shenzhen was a sound decision.

Shenzhen, the high tech manufacturing hub of southern China arguably serves as the ideal location for the new fair, with its infrastructure, business networks and talent pool helping to bring cutting-edge technologies to the Greater Bay Area. It is hoped that Formnext + PM South China will indeed contribute towards this outcome in the years to come, serving as a platform for proliferating the latest innovations in additive manufacturing and powder metallurgy across the region. With these technologies currently revolutionising Chinese manufacturing, the fair looks well placed to realise the potential of this dynamic and fast growing industry.

Sensing this potential were the 199 domestic and international brands that took part in the fair, showcasing their innovative new products. Some highlighted exhibitors included: Anycubic, Artec 3D, BLT, Covestro, Creality 3D, E-Plus, EOS, Formlabs, GKN, INTAMSYS, LiM Laser, LuxCreo, Markforged, Peshing, Raise3D, Shining 3D, SLM, TRUMPF and others. Highlighted powder metallurgy and advanced ceramic exhibitors included: 3DCERAM, B-well, Bosch Advance Ceramics, Ceraepi, CFine, Changyu, CINCY, Grand New, GREENLONG, HIPER, NANOE, SINOCERA, UNIFINE among others.

Over 80 concurrent events sharing the latest industry insights

Formnext + PM South China held a series of concurrent events, featuring top academics and experts discussing the emerging trends within the industry both in the region and worldwide. Some of the highlighted events included: Discover 3D Printing – ACAM, The 3rd South China Injection Moulding and Additive Manufacturing Technology and Application Summit, The 2nd Ceramic Substrate Preparation Technology and Industrial Chain Application Development Forum, The New Energy Vehicle Additive Manufacturing Application Industry Summit, The Shenzhen International Ceramic 3D Printing Application Summit, 3D Printing Application Conference – Powered by UNLANDS, and the China Additive Manufacturing and Powder Metallurgy Product Launch Conference.

Participant feedback for Formnext + PM South China 2021

Exhibitors

“We’ve been exhibiting at Formnext in Frankfurt for years, and when we learnt that the fair will be held in China we decided to join as it is a trusted platform for the industry. Additive manufacturing is an emerging sector in China and has seen rapid growth over the past five years. The market has a lot of potential especially as the 14th Five-Year Plan calls for cultivating advanced manufacturing industry clusters, and together with the government’s increased investment into aerospace technology, these will provide ample opportunities for the additive manufacturing industry.”
Mr Jerry Ma, General Manager – Asia Pacific, SLM Solutions (Shanghai) Co Ltd

“Formnext in Germany is a leading and influential trade fair, so we were excited to participate at this first edition. The visitor flow is great, and there are a lot of customers interested in our new products. South China is a pivotal region for the 3D printing and manufacturing industries. The domestic 3D printing industry has a lot of potential, with one-third or more of the global industry turnover from Chinese companies in recent years, and this will only grow to a larger share. The Chinese government has made great efforts to assist the industry, including 3D printing, hardware manufacturers and material manufacturers.”
Mr Jiadong Sun, General Manager, Greater China, Formlabs

“Air Products is one of the first foreign gas companies to enter China from the US. The powder metallurgy industry plays an important part of our gas business and is a segment we are heavily focused on. We are a loyal participant at PM China in Shanghai and this is our first time attending Formnext + PM China in Shenzhen. Through our participation at the Shenzhen fair, we hope to expand our network and promote our solutions to more manufacturing firms in the region.”
Mr Feng Tan, Technology Applications Engineer, Air Products

“We specialise in manufacturing aluminium nitride and alumina ceramic substrates which are widely used in various manufacturing processes. In response to China government policy, we are determined to provide our clients with the latest and best quality ceramic substrate, particularly for domestic manufacturers. As a participant at the inaugural Formnext + PM South China fair, we were pleased with the visitor flow and delighted that many buyers purposely came to our booth to source our products.”
Mr Dasheng Yang, Engineer, Fujian HuaQing Electronic Material Technology Co Ltd

Visitors

“I have strong interest in 3D metal printing, so when I knew Formnext + PM China would debut in Shenzhen I had to visit. Many of the industry’s household names have joined the fair. Besides sourcing 3D metal printing products, I’ve learned about the latest technologies in additive manufacturing including ceramic printing and inkjet printing. I will definitely visit the fair next year!”
Mr Hongbao Jiang, Engineer, Shenzhen Pacific Union Precision Manufacturing Co Ltd

“I was delighted to see a large selection of powder metallurgy suppliers gathered here at Formnext + PM South China and had a pleasant experience networking with them. In addition to the exhibition, I also found the concurrent programme presentations to be extremely useful, specifically how key industry players share their latest technological findings and market insights within the powder metallurgy space.”
Mr Aiping Sun, Senior Engineer, New Materials Application, OPPO

Seminar speaker

“The fair mirrors the confidence that the industry has towards the Chinese market, especially when quite a number of exhibitors and visitors still decided to participate despite the pandemic. My area of expertise is ceramic 3D printing and I’m glad to see the fair covers the whole supply chain including raw materials, equipment, quality management and more. I will visit the booths afterwards for sure for knowledge exchange and possible business cooperation.”
Mr Zhangwei Chen, Professor, Shenzhen University

Seminar audience

“Our company is a provider of power metallurgy sintering furnaces, so I was particularly interested in the MIM-related trends which is why I joined this seminar. I think the quality of the speakers was good and the seminar area was packed for the whole afternoon. One speaker touched on the topic of solvent degreasing, which could help solve the problems we currently encounter.”
Mr Junhua Lin, Sales Engineer, Xiamen Throne Vacuum Technology Co Ltd
